Visas and travel insurance
Spain is a Schengen member. Not sure if you require a visa to enter a Schengen country?
In general, Schengen visas requirements are as follows:
- Passport valid for at least 6 months after return date
- Proof of accommodation
- Invitation letter from local host
- Employment letter
- Bank statements
- Valid travel insurance
- Passport photographs
- Airline ticket
As a Schengen member, Spain requires a specific travel insurance to issue a visa. We strongly advise you to double check that your travel insurance matches Schengen requirements.
Schengen visa insurance requirements are as follows:
- Medical coverage of at least Euro 30,000
- Must cover emergency medical evacuation and repatriation of remains
- The insurance company must have a representative office in Europe
To meet these insurance requirements, travellers will need to provide a letter from their insurance company that confirms that coverage meets the minimum level of coverage. The duration of coverage will need to match the period of travel stated on your visa.
You can take the Aerobus, train or a taxi from the airport to your accommodation. We advise you to take public transport as much as possible. Google Maps gives excellent directions for public transport and provides many options. You can choose which fits your needs best.
Check out your options here.
Participants staying at the Residencia d'Investigadors are a 25-minute commute by subway from the venue.
How to get to the venue from Residencia d'Investigaodrs? The station closest to the residence is Liceu. Take the L3 (green line) towards Trinitat Nova. Ride the Metro for 9 stops (12 min.) to Palau Reial. From here, the venue is a 5-minute walk.
We recommend that participants purchase a T10 Travel Card. The T10 Zone 1 travel card costs €10.30. Each trip lasts for 1 hour and allows you to use unlimited buses and subways within this hour. This ticket is the one most used on a tourist visit since it covers the city centre area where most of the tourist attractions are.

Barcelona is positioned on the Mediterranean and, as a result, it experiences a moderate climate all year long. June is one of the summer months in Barcelona and therefore enjoys some of the best weather of the year with pleasant temperatures and abundant sunshine throughout. Light summery clothes will be sufficient as the average daytime temperatures are around 24°C (that is about 75°F), whereas the average minimum temperatures tend to drop down to 16°C (that is about 60°F).
Exercise safety precautions like you would in any big city. Be wary of pickpockets in public places.
